E30 Zone

Does anyone know if i am able to use the old shape fuel filter (Shorter wider type) on my 1990 facelift 318i, it currently has what i beleive to be the newer filter (long thinner type) I gave my Reg number and got the wrong one at GSF car parts does it matter or should i return it for the same one?

shuld be fine as long as the inlet and outlet holes are the same size as the old one a filter is basicly a filter apart from size there all the same inside
