Ordering New BMW Key... Options?

Hi Guys,
Silly question I know, but thought I'd seek your advice on this.
I only have the spare key for my Sport, and am hoping to have a new key cut this week.
Does anybody know if BMW offer a service for this, or should I order a blank from another company and have it cut myself?
If ordering a blank is the way I should go, any recommendations?
Many thanks
Ajay

You can get brand new genuine BMW blanks with light if you search eBay USA. I've bought 3 or 4 in the past. Then get them cut anywhere. I'm sure BMW can supply and cut but it will be a rinse.

BMW will cut a key from your VIN and it takes a couple of days. The dealer will need to see your logbook and some ID. Cost is around £19.
Ones with the torches cost more.

Just get some blanks and get them cut at the nearest key cutting/shoe polish place saves you fussing around with ID at the dealers also if the locks have been changed previously don't think they will match up with the vin

Key cutting franchise in your local high street or shopping centre will have suitable key blanks, identical in appearance to BMW ones except for the logo, and will copy your existing key pattern on to it in a couple of minutes.

Trouble is, they don't cost much less than the proper BMW keys. The last aftermarket key I had done (an E36 type) was 15 quid.

Excellent. Less than £20 for the dealers sounds very reasonable, will pop down to my local this week.
Thanks!

I replaced all the keys on mine. It makes a real difference having a brand new key - and they all fit the 20+ year old locks a treat. I wouldn't have a non BMW key. Yes they do the job but the proper thing with the logo is just nicer.
