Not Starting When It Started Before!

My daily driver (e30 325SE) has been behaving funny for the last few days.
I got in it after leaving work last night and it was totally dead to the turn of the key, suggestive of the battery being flat etc as there was no ignition,
I was about to start walking home when the ignition suddenly came back on and I was able to start the car as normal and drive home.
I thought It could be the battery in my keyfob needing replacing, alarm/immob issue but after replacing the battery its not that.
This morning I tried with new battery and ignition still dead, heres where it gets weird.... when I slam the drivers door the ignition comes back on but the car will stil not even turn over, just a funny click which happens once.
Can anyone shine any light on this? Sounds like a loose connection somewhere, we had LOADS of snow last week which seems to have done it!
