E30 Zone

E30 325i convertible while station the oil lights is off then start to drive it starts to flicker or stay on for ten sec or more checked the oil level that's all good

Three possibilities: a) Your engine is clapped*, b) the oil pressure switch is defective, or c) the insulation has cracked on the wire to the oil pressure switch where it goes around the front of the engine, and is shorting to earth.

*BMW actually state that the light coming on is acceptable at idle, but doubt if anyone looking to buy your engine would agree.

Fourth option: idle speed is too low.

option B from mr mooooooore, had this happen to me a while back, the sensor was failing & oil was dripping out through it.

replaced the sensor & it's been good as gold since.

just make sure you replace the little O ring at the same time.

Also just noticed engine sound s rattley at sertain revs mite be on its way out

that could just be the tappets

Ya could be but does not sound good to me will have to see an make sure nothing is loose but only started this noise since the oil light prob

It is easy to replace, but you will need a 24mm (i think) deep socket, or simular size ring spanner, the latter will have to have a thin wall though.

Just looked at the sensor there are 2 types one had a pin an other as a plug in type from gsf

Early engine and later engine. Actual sensors are the same, but the connector is different.
Buy whichever type is fitted to your engine.

as byron says 24mm deep socket, extension bar & also while your there you might aswell give it an oil & filter change as there WILL be plenty of old oil dribbling out.

Ok cheers guys next on the list this noise could be a loose tappet
