Earlier i changed the left side high beam bulb with a osram night breaker bulb and I can't get it to work so I put the old bulb in to see if it was the bulb and that didn't work either?is ther anything I can check before I get a mate to look at it with a electric tester?

It's not unheard of for a new electical component (bulb) to be faulty.
If you've got a 9v 'PP3' battery - like the one in smoke alarms - and a couple of bits of wire, that is enough to light a 12v bulb, quite dimly, but it would prove whether or not the bulb is OK.
You don't need to worry about getting positive and negative the right way round, as bulbs are not polarity sensitive.
Failing that the wiki will tell you which fuses and relays to check.
