Hi All,
I am a bit new to the site (just become owner of a wonderful, but a bit tired 325i tourer in dark metallic green ).

I have been looking around at solutions for my sagging headlining, which is pretty bad. On the wiki area it gives some very good details of headliner replacement - but I am a bit worried about taking the windscreen out to do it.

Are there any cheats I can do to do a repair job without having to do this? It is only sagging at the back - but trying to re-stick it with glue just isnt working as the insulation above it is just crumbling. Looking for a half way house solution if anyone has any suggestions?

There really isn't anything you can do. Once the foam starts disintegrating it's a race against time, and glueing it in will place will just lead to it sagging somewhere else. You really need to get the whole thing out to work on it.

Removing the windscreen really isn't scary at all; it just pops out of its rubber seal.

Removing and replacing the windscreen is easy, BUT, not required on a touring to remove the headlining.

what colour is your headlining?

I have a minty fresh touring one here still in cellophane that I dont think I'm ever going to fit...

On touring its only a case of removing trim and fixings rather than screens

How good is the car ?

if its a keeper/in good nick a replacement or retrim is the only way to go

A common quick/temp fix is just to staple it

Great news if I do t have to removed the screen - cheers for that.
The car is definitely a keeper - its got a few issues l which I've sorted now (exhaust, clutch slave cylinder) but once this is sorted I'll have a half decent car

Anyone tried sewing it into place?
You'd need a long needle to go through the foam, but it would be very secure, plus you could use whatever material/colour/pattern you wanted.

Think I'll go with black velvet........

Ripping the old one off and replacing it is the only viable option. It takes a while but isn't difficult.

Does anyone have a link to a 'how to' for touring headliner removal, the wiki seems to refer to coupe's and saloons's?

Looking to do my new tourer as well!

If you look carefully, all the photos in the Wiki article are of a Touring... my one!

For anyone interested - I managed to sort this out in the end by scraping the foam off the roof and the back of the liner with a plastic scraper. Then when I used fabric glue again it stuck on properly... Cheating, but much simpler than replacing the whole thing... it it quite dirty though, so Ill have to replace it properly at some point.
