Squeezing steering

Yesterday the car decided that every time I turn the steering wheel it squeaks like a bugger it's not coming from the wheels or anything just the steering column do I need a new one ??

thre possibilities I can think of.

1. Loose belt, would be most prominent when close to or on full lock

2. Knackered Pump

3. Dry bearing in the steering column, i think there is an article in the wiki that covers where to drill a small hole in the column so you can grease the bearing

4. Dried out grease on brass ring at the the back of the steering wheel where it connects to the carbon brush for the horn.

Isnt yours non PAS Gary ?

Probably a dry bearing as mentioned above, my 318is did this some days

I'm sure Gary's is a poverty spev car, so no P/S on his.

Yes sorry it's poverty spec no pas
