i am struggling to find a thread on e30 rear coil-over suspension set ups,

any help appreciated
thanks,
Carl

There are many issues to over come with a true rear coilover.
1. Coil to Chassis clearance on the offside where the fuel expansion hoses run.
2. Tyre to coilover.
If its a track only car then no problem, but for anything else I don't see what the problems with in board springs are?

i believe, and dont quote me on this, but i believe E34 rear coilovers do fit, but if you were to go down this route, your lower arm where it mounts too should be braced as its obviously not made to take the force/rebound of a macpherson style strut, so that will become a weak point.
I've not actually gone down this route but i may soon be looking at doing so, if i do i'll update this thread with any information i can provide.

I would be shocked if e34 rear fit, for a start the top mounts have three studs not two and the spring has got to be 3" if not larger. There's also the droop and ride height to consider.

There's nothing wrong with having a seperate spring and dampner. Just get a proper kit with adjustable spring & dampner perches. Don't know if anyone does such a kit for an E30 like.....
