What comes in the Spax kit?
That nut holds the replaceable shock insert in place, could never get mine undone when i was overhauling my suspension but was under the impression that the whole shock got replaced with these spring/shock kits....?

Yes you are trying the right bolt but it's very tight and rusty.
Try soaking it with plenty of WD40 and getting a big stilson pipe wrench on the nut whilst holding the suspension leg in a vice.
They can be tricky to undo.

I would not put the leg in a vice.
Bolt the leg to a wheel and lay the wheel down onto a flat surface and get some one to stand on the wheel while you try to get the nut off.

Personally I'd use a vice and plenty of violence.
I used a workmate to hold it and then cut a slot at an angle in the offending item then wedged a large screw driver in the slot and erm tapped it with a medium sized walloping device. Worked a treat

Cheers for the advice guy's! I have accepted defeat this weekend and put it all back together (what a waste of time). Next weekend will be round two and I'm gonna go for the workmate followed by the wheel and a friend

I cant believe you guys are telling him to use a vice, dont you think that a vice would deform the strut leg? it will affect everything from camber to caster if you bend it even lightly.

i use a large mole grip or monkey rench, does the job every time, although bolting on the wheel can help,
i call all of this, THE OTHER LANGUAGE!
