I have read a post which mentions a bottom washer on the rear damper shock absorber top mount, the top mount has recently failed, my car is missing this bottom washer, is it the same shape and size as the top washer?

You're comparing part 6 with part 12. Different part numbers = different parts, unfortunately.

Does that screw into the top of the protection tube 5? If that is the case then I already have that part! I have destroyed two top mounts from GSF one after a couple of months and this one after only a couple of weeks?!! Surely I didn't get two faulty top mounts?

Looking at the diagram again I may be missing part 4!

Mine doesn't have part 10 don't think it is vital!

I have bought a couple of spreader washers and the E46 convertible top mount, which seems considerably stiffer. Happy Days! Thanks for the tips guys!

The washers are only £1.50ish from BMW, one on my e36 rusted through the middle and let the damper push the rubber all the way out of the mount, and through the boot carpet!

I used part 10 but I don't think they're vital.

If in doubt, a smear of silicone sealer or similar will do just as well to seal the mounting. winkeye
