E30 Zone

Right, 2 problems with my e30:

1, After replacing the water pump, bleeding the system, heaters blowing hot, all water pipes hot, no airlock? Topped up to max, which wasnt much an left it to cool down, tried it again, after about 5 minutes, temp gauge just over blue, heaters blowing hot. Airlock? Cant run it up to try again because:

2, Tried it again the morning after an it was misfiring, smokey, wouldnt rev, this problem happened over night an was running fine when i was running it up, but noticed a pulley had worn through the wire which has a ring on one end which a ht lead goes through, not sure were the otherside goes, what is this wire? Cant find anything, someone said its something to do with the crankshaft sensor, looked at pictures of m40 crankshaft sensors an none has the ring for the ht lead goes through?

Cant help you much with the cooling issue but i believe the lead that was worn through measures the pulse from the ht lead its on and is vital for the engine to run.

Yea, cut through it to try an bodge it up to get it running to see if i could sort the cooling probs but its not happening, need to know what the part is called so i can order a new one

That wire plugs into the harness for the injectors and the crankshaft sensor.

You can remove the black Y shaped metal bracket on the left side of the motor which will give you access to where this lead plugs into....be very careful working in this area as there are water hoses connected to the black plastic water plenum on the side of the block and it is very easy to break of the ends of the plenum as the plastic gets brittle and crumbly with age.

There should be another lead running next to your broken on which is the lead for the crankshaft sensor....make sure this lead has not also rubbed on something and worn through.

Check that all the plugs in that area are nicely seated.

You can try and find that worn out lead on www.realoem.com but last time I looked I could not see it listed....try remove the broken cable and repair it outside the car....it is not a very complex cable.
