320i convertible enquiries...

hi everyone,

just become a proud owner of a 91 320i convertible. i know its the wrong season but it was love at first sight, the fact it only had 60k on the clock made it an easy choice.

having being stored in a garage for 2 years (the previous owners eyesight had deterioted and was told not to drive on doctors orders) the car was not exactly mint. i have already spent a small fortune restoring it,but would like to ask a couple of questions.

1. where would be the best place to have the hood checked over? i have notice water creeping in from the rear side windows. it would help a great deal to get in touch with a reputable specialist.

2. how many miles before the cam belt needs changing? on most cars its usually 60k and as i am approaching that figure,i would like to be aware of it.

if anyone has any other tips on the car,it would be greatly accepted.

regards,karl.

Warm welcombe to the zone from the mods.
Question 1 - By logging on to this zone you are in contact with dozens of BMW specialists. Unfortunately, on cabs, I'm not one of them.
Question 2 - Unless you have evidence that it's been recently done, then the answer is as soon as possible, belt and tensioner.

welcome to the wondelful world of cab owning!! fortunately here we are blessed with warm sunny weather, but in uk you are not!! so to aid your leaking windows there is a set proceedure to align the hood, and then align the four windows to ensure they are parallel to the seals. it is quite an involved proceedure and very well described in the Bentley manual, which i would strongly recommend you get (a link is on the E30zone home page). if you need a quick fix however let me know and i will do some copyright imfringments!!

the post above explains about lining the roof and windows, as for the belt dont only go by the milage as time also counts i.e. every 3 or 4 years so if i was you i would get the belt changed straight away.
