Bought a G Clamp from B&Q last friday for £4. Also make sure you have removed the brake fluid resevior cap before trying to compress it again.

NEVER push back a calliper piston with the system closed!
Not only does it make it hard to do, but it pushes the usually cruddy fluid in the calliper back into the master cylinder and ABS pump, and has been known to invert the seals in the master.
Always put a bleed tube on the bleed nipple, open the nipple, and let the displaced fluid escape.
With the nipple open, you should be able to push the piston back with your fingers.
When you stop pushing the piston, it will tend to spring back very slightly, and possibly draw a very small amount of air in via the nipple, so wait a couple of seconds for fluid to start flowing by gravity before you close it off.

Where can you get bleed tubes from Brian, are they a special tool or just any bit of tube pointing down into a pot?

If I'd known the above I wouldn't have done it on my Fiesta..

Bleed tube is just a bit of clear plastic tube with a short length of rubber tube pushed over one end, that you push onto the bleed nipple. Nothing special about it. I've probably had mine for over forty years, and have replaced the rubber bit many times and the clear tube a few times.
Any bit of suitably sized pipe will do - the rubber bit just makes it easy to attach to the nipple, and if it's clear, you can see air bubbles flowing down it.
More fancy versions incorporate a one way valve, and are intended for 'one man' brake bleeding.
