is there any common faults to look for? got no heat gettin to matrix... disconnected pipes at engine bay/ blew threw and NO flow

More importantly, the first paragraph of the 'heating system troubleshoot' is completely wrong for 99.9% of E30s. The electric heater valve is not controlled by a rheostat, and does not control the heater output temperature.
The heater control incorporates an electrical switch, which applies 12 volts to the heater valve only when the knob is turned to full cold, switching off the coolant flow through the heater matrix. As soon as the knob is moved away from cold, the switch turns off and coolant flows through the heater. Further movement of the knob controls a flap in the heater box which blends cold and hot air to control the temperature of the air leaving the heater.

The heater troubleshoot info comes from some magazine article that was uploaded to the Wiki yonks ago. I'll amend the page and delete the offending article, but is there anything else on there that's glaringly wrong?

Slightly off topic (but related), Grrrrmachine, can you lend some practical advice to members enquiries rather than just posting a link to various wiki items please.
Some new members would prefer it if they thought they were dealing with someone who knows what they are talking about rather than a reference to a wiki link. Yes the wiki is a great source of information, but imho members prefer to deal with someone who has had the same problem and dealt with it successfully.
