i hear this is a common fault on the E30, my fan only works on the highest setting and i'm just wondering where the 'hedgehog' resistor is located on the car, i googled it but it gave me 4 different locations
it's an '87 320i, i'm replacing it with a part from a '91 316i (if it's the same)
any help is much appreciated

Remove the glovebox and surounding plastics and you will see it up on the side of the heater box

The underlying cause of a failed resistor is usually fan motor bearings that are partly seized through lack of lubrication, so this should be addressed as well.
