Fuel heavy and smells!!

I have a BMW 320i H 1991 Cabby
I seem to be getting through an unusual amount of fuel. Now I know they're not bought for their fuel economy (esp 320s!) but it has got worse recently. It smells quite fuel heavy from the exhaust also. Any ideas or suggestions, not get a 325, to try find the issue much appreciated
Cheers

The are a number of possibilities.
1. Faulty blue temp sensor
2. Air leaks from hoses at the inlet side
3. Faulty or messed with AFM
4. Faulty or incorrectly set TPS
Have a look through the wiki for idling issues and its pretty much all covered in there.

Thanks. I checked the hoses inlet side, seem ok. I have a new blue temp sensor but how do you get the old one off? I have a deep 19mm socket which I can just about get over the old one but there's no room to put the ratchet on the end, or an extension bar?? I've searched for how to's and nothing mentions accessing this will be a problem. I cant get a spanner in there either, not down far nough as its on a sharp angle from every side?
Help appreciated.
Cheers

Hi
I had a fuel smell & could not find it till the thing went up in flames. Leak came from the fuel presure valve 0 ring. It cost me £3.00 for a 'o' ring. The origenal one had split. Hope this helps

You need to remove the Fuel Pressure Regulator, two bolts 13mm I think.
Remove the brown sensor then you can get at the blue one. I did mine wheh changing the rad so had a little more room with the hoses out the way.

Oh also best to test it first at the ECU and senor before removing just incase its not faulty and its a wiring issue. Check the WIKI there is a good guide in there for it.

OK - As I'd already bought the new blue temp sensor I changed it. Started the car and it was fine

. Tried again a minute later and same problem

. Any suggestions on how to check AFM or TPS, I had a look at WIKI and couldnt find anything.
Thanks
