Electric mirrors

My mirrors wont work which is mildy annoying. It's not a blown fuse, so with zero electrical know-how I'm now scratching my head.

I have a spare switch which I will try today, but failing that, anyone got any idea what to look for?

Have they stopped working recently or never worked since you owned the car ?

If you've got a spare switch it can't hurt to swap it over - you never know.

If it still doesnt cure it you can try finding the electrical feeds at each side of the car to make sure they're properly plugged in.

It was the switch. Nice easy one, and now means that I have an E30 on which everything is in full working order..... 8)

Just seen this - too late!
90% of cases where the driver's door mirror is completely dead, the switch is at fault.

Good to hear - I hope that I'm in that bracket - mine have packed up and the new switch is due to arrive in the post tomorrow. Fingers crossed, as fitting it is about the limit of my car electrics knowhow..!

Is it still likely to be the switch if the passenger mirror still works?

Yes, but if the driver's does and the passenger doesn't, there are two sets of 'A' pillar door plugs and sockets that this signal passes through to consider.

If they both don't work and all fuses are fine does that point to the switch ? If so I'm going to have to find a new switch!!

Thanks

Check for power at the A-pillar door plugs as mentioned above - if power is getting there when you move the switch with ignition on its not the switch.

If not a replacement switch wont be much secondhand :)

Pull out the switch, unplug it, and connect a 12 volt bulb of at least 5 watts, between the green/white and brown wires, with the ignition on.
If it lights, the switch is probably the cause of no mirrors at all.

Have a problem with my mirrors.

Drivers side one works fine, Passenger side one just "clicks" when you move the switch up and down and does nothing when the switch is moved side to side.

Tried swapping the switch - exactly the same.

passenger side motor knackered ?

More likely to be crud/corrosion/other failure at the A post sockets IME.
