E30 Zone

Yo guys.

Was shifting my engine about today trying to reposition one of the engine mounts and I managed to let the inlet manifold rest on the flange where the hoses for the heater matrix enter the bulkhead. One of them has snapped off flush

I have coupled the hoses together so I can drive the car but I need my heaters back!

Not sure what to do now. Can I remove the flange completely or is it attached to something behind the bulkhead?

Was thinking of binning it and just attaching the hoses together with copper pipe and jubilee clips. Does it go back to rubber hose under the dash?

Does anyone have a diagram of the setup behind the dash. Car was originally a 316 touring.

The stub is attached to the heater matrix.




You may manage to get enough access to replace it without removing the matrix.

if it helps kingcruizer has just taken his heater matrix completely out and may be able to help ya with the part as a whole or just the bit you need

Great pic dave thanks. Looking at that I'm going to cut out the rubber and try and connect the hose to what's left.

Either of the stub pipes is easy enough to replace - two small nuts and bolts and an O ring, plus a difficult to get at self tapping screw if it's the lower one. It's a common E30 job to replace the bottom one anyway, since it's part of the electric heater valve.
Take care to reconnect the heater hoses the correct way around after replacing the pipe.
