Strange rev counter

Hi,
Just wondering of anyone could shed some light on a situation I have with my rev counter and temp gauge? My 325 apparently idles at 5000rpm according to the binacle and the temp gauge just isn't working (maybe the sender). My main concern is the temperature gauge but if they are a linked fault then I would like to find that out if possible. While driving the car, the speedo is fine and it registers speed perfect but the rev counter is useless, it flicks about all over the shop and registers at around 14000rmp ..... Off the scale completely lol. can anyone help me out?
Thanks in advance

if both have gone check the ground to the clock cluster, curious, does your fuel guage work ok?

Also check the nut on the back of your temp guage, and link the pin out to ground on the temp sensor (brown one) to ground with ignition on and see if guage reads hot, if it does your temp sensor is at fault.

Where does the rev counter sit with engine off?

What are the service indicator lights showing?

The service indicator board takes information from both the temp gauge and the rev counter,I would suspect that first, two kinds of batteries are used to help it keep information stored,a search will reveal which kind can be changed!

An examination of the board will reveal if a battery has leaked...
