I found a receipt saying that the rear valance was "repaired" some years ago so I assume this will need to be repaired correctly this time.

I will get an OEM replacement probably one from the breakers around the south east...any one got some?

Wing mirror..not too expensive so I will get a replacement

hmm something broke off :( but it broke off cleanly so it should be welded back on quite easy :)

I don't believe I wanted to do that. I will read the instruction manuals before I start next time....it was the first time I ever jacked a car up though.....on a serious note is the diff leaking/weaping? the car is SORNed of the road so have not driven it more than a few feet in the last couple of years.

look at that exhaust :(

these look shitty but the big brake upgrades are way down teh line :)

Is there anywhere I have missed? On the whole I don't think it is too bad. I just want to make sure that the car is worth restoring to it's pass glory. (for an absolute newbie)

TBO,as I scrolled through the piccies I was thinking that it looks pretty good!

Battery tray could do with a clean off and re-paint,but there's not much else to worry about, really.

Diffs do weep a little, like all mechanical bits they enjoy being used, leaving them in one position means that the seals dry out and get out of shape, hence the dribbles.

Brakes may well clean off with use, exhaust looks scabby, but these are all 'bolt on' bits that can be regarded as service items.

Thanks Daimler,

That's is what I thought too.

The car has got worse because it has been sitting around for so long. I was thinking I would get it back on the road this year just to clear it's lungs every now and again.

I can't afford the planned full respray at the moment but would it be better to expose more and just treated it for now.

I probably will not get the respray for a few years!! :(

Would it be best to get the rusty bits cut out now and sorted. I am not sure if this is within the budget at the moment either but I get the feeling that the cost will just rise. I do not want to fill all the holes with filer either.

As it is on and around the Valance my mtech 2 bumper will cover all this.

I have just put krust on the bit I have exposed at the moment

The car may spend another winter on the drive with a cover on it(if it survive the wind this time)
so I am a bit worried about exposing even more surface to the elements.

what do you guys suggest?

All E30's are rusty mate, I mean all.

Just get stuck in and repair it best you can so you can get through each MOT or strip it completely and do it properly.

Best part of owning E30's is the fear of what lurks :D

Depends on how much you can do yourself, and how much you intend to farm out.

Bodywork welding/repair is a bit of a 'black art',I was lucky enough to catch my bodyman at it one visit to check up on my cabbie;

Image

To make this kind of repair invisible needs far more skill than I can muster up.
May be an idea to slap a coat of zinc rich primer onto your bare metal to attempt to contain the rot until you can afford to let a bodyman loose!

I used a guy who works literally at the end of the street that I live on,this enabled me to wander in and out with my camara pretty much when I wanted to.
He largely fitted my job in around his day to day work of knocking dents out of modern metal, suited him to work this way and I was'nt too desperate for the car back.

Thanks guys,

I do not believe I will ever be skilled enough to do any decent welding and will farm this out.

I will reveal a bit more than a coating of krust and primer will have to do until i get a body shop to look at it.

Now i have a new dillema of working out what makes a good body shop...i guess it is in the quality of the finish.
