My drivers door is a little stiff but work s and locks..the bot operates with the same key, but seperately
the passenger door will not open with the key, nor will it open from the inside
i can't recall breaking anything
is there some weird deadlock setting that i may have activated, or is my door lock kaput?

Have read through this link;
http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... g_problems
In addition to this,I would suggest that you replace your driver's door lock.
A 'lock repair kit' is available from the dealer,last one that I bought cost £20.
What you get is a door lock in component form,you build up the barrel to suit your key.
When you turn your key in the lock barrel,an L shaped arm engages the latching gear,this mechanicaly locks the door and pulls up the solinoid that signals the rest of the system to lock,further turning the key to the horizontal position swings the L bit out of engagement with the latch(thus setting the deadlock)and triggering a micro-switch,this signals the other solinoids to operate a rack device to deadlock.
Now this L shaped arm has a habit of not only wearing,but breaking at it's weakest point,making it's operation very hit or miss....
Whilst you have the driver's door in bits to replace the lock barrel,take another half hour or so and remove the latch from the door jamb,clean and lubricate all piviot points and work it by hand until it moves with little effort.
Re-build it all,and admire the way all the locks function as intended!
Welcome to the zone,BTW.
