whizzing noise when turning over to start

i get a fast whizzing noise when turning over to start the engine,
it fires and runs fine instantly just this noise, sounds like an electric motor spinning quickly,

dunno? it makes the noise while its turning over before it fires
then goes the instant it fires.

it could be that the solenoid on the starter is not kicking in allowing the starter motor itself to spin freely before engaging with the flywheel and starting the engine.

hi had the same problem on my cab, it means your starter is on its last legs. a second hand 1 cured mine:) now my brothers is doing it lol. check ebay and breakers yards. martin

What engine is it for?? I've got a couple of spares and will be in Sutton on Saturday.
