Is there a bush at the top of the steering column that can cause it to squeek when turning the wheel? or is it more likely somehow the cowling has started rubbing?

The first thing I'd check would be the horn slip-ring and spring-loaded contact. Give them a smear of light grease.

My very annoying squeak turned out to be coming from the UJ in the engine bay just in front of the bulkhead. Hard to lube on LHD but a doddle on a right hooker. Bit of WD40 and never been heard from again! :D
