No heating, AGAIN! plus loud noise

ok car was sat over the weekend, in the poor freezing weather, battery was flat as usual, so quick jump start and soon as it fired up there was a really loud wiring/grinding squeeking moaning kind of sound,

it did this once before when the enigine freezed up, but once it warmed up it stopped, but this time i have no heating. i have bled the system and doesnt appear to be any more air coming out, but heater matrix pipes are cold and it feels like there is no air in the big pipe that runs next to the fan (m40/42 engine)

i can't be bothered to flush the whole system again yet, is there anything else i can try or any other things it could be?

i'm sick of this car and thinking of getting rid now.

It's not the car; it's the owner! Duff battery and understrength antifreeze. Any car will fail if treated like that!
Starting a frozen engine can strip all the vanes off of the water pump.
(Second time I've typed that in five minutes.)

brianmoore i completely agree, i probably been using wrong type of anti freeze or something,

I'm guessing iv wrecked the water pump then!

I just lost total care for this heap of crap since the problems started with start motors, then leaking power fluid, bent prop shaft, list is endless lol

ANTI FREEZE. :D Simple... Make sure you get enough in, with the extreme temperature drops we are having, most people assume what they have in is enough, when it clearly isnt... I learnt this.

im learning the hard way now,

the car doesn't over heat, so does that show the sign of a working water pump?

Just changed the water pump on my sons 206, 3 vanes bent in half and 3 missing, stuck a magnet in the pump hole and fortunately got the missing vanes back, last time I gave him 5ltrs of anti freeze, this time I put it in.

If you want to sell it, give me a pmwith some info. ;)

As for your water pump, you may be ok still but i'm unsure to be honest.

Get your battery and antifreeze sorted first and go from there. But also get some more advise and not just mine!

Cant find your thread mate, but how bad could she be? :D

I'm always interested in more e30's... :D

I think do what has been advised on here first as its usually the best info rather than a google search. It should sort you problem, if not, report back and see what else is suggested then.

how did the air get in there in the first place? is my question......
im assuming here that the car was running fine before being sat for the weekend?
for there to be air in the system you either have to have a leak somewhere or you have done maintanence regarding the cooling system???
if there was no air in it before it wont just miraculously apear in there by sitting!!

my bet is hardly any ainti-freeze and mostly water mix which has frozen up, if the matrix pipes are cold then the water pump isnt doing its job!!

jim its satin black, black headlights, chequer roof and boot, coilovers, lsd, 318is, mtech 1 spoiler, windows tints all round, mtech steering wheel, strut brace, bonnet bra somewhere, cant remember what else off top of my head.

the car was fine before, nice warm heaters etc, then it stood for the weekend, must of frozen up inside, which might of caused air block?

I'm still interested mate. :D If your serious, let me know a price when you sell it via a pm... :D

Like dk said, I doubt there will be an airlock as you havent touched the car and you said your sorted this a while back... Your problem will be anti freeze, just get lots in there, lots and lots.

In your case ryan, seen as you have undun pipes to pour hot water through, you may have an air lock caused by unoing pipes and air getting in!

Bleed the cooling system again and report back, but when bled make sure you have plenty of antifreeze in there!
Worstcase scenario will be the waterpump.

When you top up to bleed try pouring a ltr of antifreeze in with the bleed screw open and blow hard into the expansion tank, pour another ltr in and repeat procedure till pure fluid comes out of the bleed opening.
When this happens top up a bit more and while blowing (with pure fluid escaping) close off the bleed screw and job should be done.it may help also to raise the front of the car slightly.
Post up here your success :D

Easiest way to shift a heater circuit airlock is to brim the coolant bottle, then pull off the top heater hose at the bulkhead, allow the air out, then put the pipe back on with coolant flowing out as you do so.
