yep going for the idiot of the week award...
put it in but forgot to run it through..anyway got most of the pipes off and thawed and the thermostat out and all thawed.
the end junction on the back of the head cracked so got a replacment just wondering things to do or not do when trying to get it running again.??
also sheared a bolt on the thermosat cover, will it seal up ok with just two bolts??
the car is a 316 ( m40 engine)
any thoughts would be great cheers. carl

well if it is all thawed out there is only one way to find out if it is all ok.. pluk up the courage to start it!!, i wouldnt take the gamble on the t.stat bolt. it will prob let you down at the worst time, i have did the same to a m20 a few years ago. had a burst hose, when i sorted it i filled with water with the intention of nipping out the next morning to get the antifreeze, well the next morning it had frozen solid... slackend off the alt and fired it up, after it thawed out i put antifreeze in and it never gave a problem.. but i consider myself lucky and a lesson learnd!

you mean the ones which you have to drill a hole onto stud and then use the 'reverse type' drill bit to unwind it? if so id use that as a last resort. strip it and see if you have any of the stud sticking out. if so get the mole grips or stud remove socket on it first. if the stud is flush you have th eoption (if you have a welder) weld the inside of a nut the the stud and wind it out. if you do have to revert to drilling it and usein the thread tipe remover be very careful. do not snap the drill inside when drilling and do not snap the tool inside the stud.. they are very snapable and if you do, you have next to no chance of gettin it out. when you drill the hole, center punch a pilot mark and dont use too big of a drill bit when drilling. but be very careful not to snap the drill inside... or the tool...

theres no stud sticking out and its about 6mm dia so dont reckon i could weld it, i might have a go carefully if i get a tool, although iam great at snapping drill bits!! could take it to an engineer just reluctant as they would have to dick around with all the water system£££££.
glad you checked yours as from now on everything in my life is gona have loads of antifreeze in even the fish pond just in case!! :) :o:
cheers
