iv heard some of the m20 gusy say they go 200 miles for 20 quid but i think thats motorway miles

165 jus seems very uneconomical

Last week I did Worthing to Edinburgh (480ish miles) and it cost about Ԛ£50.
Thats with an engine that has done 118,000 miles.

165 sound pretty poor, could be time for a service.

your lead foot Mr 318iS winkeye

rubbish the economy guage is a very good guide, especially on a 325 where they will happily drink like george best at 20mpg when u can travel at the same speed and let your foot up to 30mpg on the guage and save alot of fuel

I always laugh when people say the economy guages are rubbish

Economy gauge is very useful thing. Sometimes I can be doing 85 on the mway it shows a nice 35mpg.
Often, backing off a little bit makes a big difference.
Goes down to 8mpg when accelerating up a hill though.

Anyway, in my 318iS I manage around 320miles max out of a full 10 gallong tank, costing around Ԛ£42.

Dan, just keep an eye on the economy guage. I've got a ridiculous 47mpg from a Ԛ£20 on one occasion in an 8v 316i by just watching the guage and adapting my driving so that it sits on or above 50 most of the time

get the cars on the emmissions machine (local mot station) and check what co level u are pushin

over 3 is alot, over 4 and i think ud fail..

point is, there is a screw on the afm (m20, not suer with the others) if u adjust this to lower the co level, id bet that your consumption goes down aswell.

i had a 3.8% blend

adjusted to 1.5% and ive seen more miles out of Ԛ£45 than ever

i got about 330 miles so about 30 mpg, not bad

I dont know how that could have worked because the screw on the AFM only adjusts the CO level at idle. Wont make a difference to your above idol petrol consumption. To do this you need to tighten the spring on the AFM flap. The tighter it is, the leaner the mixture.

dude somethings wrong!

the best i got out of my iS to a tank full was 420miles! the average around town i guess 280 / 300 ....

Is yours chipped? if so then you will be using more fuel... try backing off the little pedal on the right, fuel economy all comes down to driving style.

Just think every time you press the brake pedal (apart from going down hill) you are basically wasting fuel.

You've used fuel to gain momentum, then waste all that energy when you brake. Look ahead when your driving, anticipate junctions, other people etc, keep a decent distance from the vehicle in front then you will not need to used the brakes so much and save you fuel in the long run.

Of course you could just rag the car to death and watch the fuel gauge drop, the choice is yours!
