E30 M3 5 lug conversion Q

Hello all,
If I installed an E30 M3 5 lug setup onto another E30 (318iS), what offset should I be looking at for the wheels?
Im thinking of getting BBS RC041's, with an ET41 offset.

Would these be Ok using the M3's setup (front and rear)?

Cheers
:)

why spend 1k on suspension (if you can find e30 m3stuff) to just fit the 7.5 rims ?? just buy the hub adaptors instead ,20mm ones will drop the off set to 21mm

I think et41 would mean the rim would contact the front upright.

Standard 16x7.5 M3 BBS are et27 - so this is probably a good guideline.

Well I already have the M3 stuff put aside for me, and it didnt cost 1k thats for sure.
I want the conversion for more brake options tbh. I refuse to fit WMS shit on my car. AP Racing all the way. I dont want the wheels for aesthetic reasons either - they have a slight bulge which would help aid calliper clearance.
Thanks for the specs Theo - ill get digging with that.

What's your problem with WMS brakes?

Lol sorry about that :P , I cant see much point buying budget braking systems :P ! I mean; tyres, or pattern body parts - maybe, but not cheap brakes! Theyre...your brakes man! AP Racing supply 8 out of the 10 F1 teams..good enough for me and my red shed! Just my personal choice :)

Aw, that makes me feel all warm inside!

Nice to be appreciated, after all you see AP Racing here working with you guys all the time right? WMS kits are not "budget" at all (you should see the corner cutting I've seen from some of our competitors, especially in terms of brackets). Of course being a smaller brand we don't get to make the same markups Brembo/AP Racing/Alcon do, and we don't use a slice of YOUR money to support a heap of dealers.

But AP racing are 5 times the price, they must be better... :?

Oh wait a sec.

It's a lot like EBC vs Pagid. Yes Pagid products probably have the edge, but a (WMS fit) Pagid RS29 pad lists at £164.42+vat where the EBC Yellow one is £34.37+vat.

Which gives you more bang for your buck?

im with keri
;)
and differnce there is that all the f1 teams and prob many racing teams use ceramic brakes which if you dont know are in the thousands
and as for your red shed im quite sure it aint quick enough to even warm them types of brakes up so standard brakes for yours is more than sufice

Thanks for the information guys. But its going a little OT :P Brake set-up is besides the point in my origianl question, so nevermind.

Ill have a look at ET21 and 27 options.

I see why you need AP racing brakes.. You own a mighty a 318is! Now it all makes sense, the sheer power of the M42 can't be tamed by smaller brands. :P

However the price of AP Racing brakes would be a lot more than the value of your car...!

Maybe one of these would be a better upgrade if you're after the best of the best?

erm? if you feel the need for ott braking systems for a 318 surely you wouldnt want some budget tyres connecting you to the road? They`re your tyres man!!!

et41 wheels on hub that designed to work with et20 wheels. well that's not going to clear factory calipers let alone 4 pots

AP do a nice kit with IIRC 280mm disks and 4 pots that clear a 15" rim, much like the WMS kit. but you need et 20-25 wheels to clear calipers

keri, what the score with the e36 set up you were working on ?

Edited after having a look today - there's less lug>lug room than I thought, might need a rethink. :?

Ah well, I've been doing some testing (E30 M3 is part of the same project), quick version to try and keep this on topic:

- There is a new caliper, it's on the shelf but under wraps!
- I expect to have news and photos next month....

That's it for now!
Im not being funny but i think the op needs to read a few threads that you guys at WMS have been involved in as then he or she will see what research you have done for this one vehicle.

The thing i like about your attitude at WMS is if there was a problem fitting a certain caliper behind a certain wheel you would research it and sort an answer out for it. :D

No, they wont fit. i tried a 7.5 et38 wheel on my m3 and they rubbed the front strut, and theyll sit too far inside the arch.

you could stick a 20mm spacer on which would take them down to et21, they'd fit a lot better in the arches and give tons of room for big brakes.

A whole page's worth of postings, 90% of which are personal opinion rather than fact. And fuck me do I not want your opinions on my tastes or (and I know this may come as a shock) informed research.
Being the OP, I thought the only personal opinon that would matter in my own thread would be.. ERRR, mine? And who's to say I havn't done my research?
Nothing like a bit of classic forum-anonymity dick-swinging.

But cheers for that info harry_p :) I'll have a look about.

Scott.

Gareth that cracked me up. It needs revs so it must be a baby M3, which must need M3 suspension, 17's and 325mm AP's!!!! Probably need two calipers each wheel, two 8-pots might just cope with the warp drive power plant.

Well Mr informed researcher how about you try the link below rather than asking such lowly opinions as ours, in a DISCUSSION FORUM of all places, and certainly try it before buying 8 a wide wheels with ET41 offset.

And, no you don’t have to thank me for researching it for you.

I was thinking 320mm/17" or smaller if possible, but it's looking like being a real pain - it'll need a "rotated" bracket if that makes sense, meaning handed brackets and double the cost to stock/prototype...

i've seen 300mm kits with 4 pots to fit behind 15's

iirc, the e46 disks fit and can be utilised. the fron brakes on a 328i e36 are 300mm and the 330i is 320mm.

i'd say most people using these cars on track/fast road will be on 17's. i considered 15's and had the wheels but 17's allow wider tyres and bigger brakes for what is a much heavier car so i view them as the best option

i think i know what you are going on about with the rotated bracket. worth doing imo especialy if you have the kit priced well.

Well fingers crossed I can wriggle all the bits in there, and you're right - if people are running 17's it should be doable. We'll see, a lot depends on the wheel of course. (I fitted 325x32 brakes up a Compomotive 16" wheel last year)

Shame for the E30 lads running 5-stud struts and smaller wheels though.

the thing is with e30's "good" wheels are limited. 15" BBS are about the only cost effective option if you have a 4 lug.

for the guys running an e36 hybrid set up on their e30's they usually do it to fit BBS style 5's not for big brakes lol

if the set up can work with say an e36 m3 wheel on the e36 hub it will should clear the low et wheels.

any way i'll leave you to it, its your field your expertise lol i'm just guestimating
