hi
i had the same problem on my 318is. after checking the clocs, everything seemed fine there. having checked the speed sensor wires, they were completely corroded. i check about to see if i could get another sensor with wires already conencted with no luck. managed to get my uncle who is pretty handy with electrics to solder new wires to the old connectors and it worked straight away.

My wires corroded, came away from the plug when i checked the connection. Bought a couple of new plugs (90degree female sockets with new wire sticking out) from BMW, cost about £10 if i remember rightly

had about 4 e30's do this easy fix and you can check by just jacking up the car a bit and sticking your head under insted of pulling the clocks out
