Running very rich

Hello there people for the past few months i have been noticing that my car has been burning farrrrrrrrr to much petrol for a 1.6 8v,and it running very very rich..i have been told that i can adjust the mixture of air and fuel..is this true?? if so how do i do it??

You can't do it accurately without an exhaust gas analyser - best thing to do is to get it sorted professionally.

check for air leaks wiht any split vacum hoses or the inlet bellow.

Also worth replacing the blue temp sensor which is what tells the ECU the temp of the car. It could be knackered and fooling the car into thinking it is cooler than it is and compensating by making the fuel mixture too rich.

I am assuming it is a 316i and not a 316?

When was it last serviced, such as oil, plugs & filters?

Il look into that...oil and filter was done in december but its starting to tap quite badly now as if oil is rather think ect so that wil be due....plugs were done today and just cleaned the air filter.
