is there any strength in the tinny metal the rear seat backrest is against and the parcel shelf and would it make any difference to structural integrity if the car is fitted with 6 point bolt in cage and front and rear strut braces?

cheers

if your car is fitted with a proper cage welded to the floorpan then there is no requirement for the rear shelf or seat back.

IIRC many race cars WITH roll cages remove this panel to save weight.

No expert at this, but I would want to see a cross brace replacing this sheet metal,at the very least to provide a suitable mount for safety harness.

If your having a cage i'm sure you'll be fine removing it. Problems arrive when no cage is fitted and parcel shelf assassins hack up the panel using their teeth to fit some over size speakers...
