Creaking at rear.

My touring has all of a sudden started to make this very loud creaking/cracking noise at the rear passenger side.
Once above 30mph it disappears.
Checked the top mount and i can turn the circular metal part 1/3 of a turn and theres about 1cm travel when i push down on the rear.
Is this normal?
Does anybody have any idea what it could be?
Thanks.

My sisters Impreza has just developed some horrific creaking and that turned out to be the drop links. Which are weeks old
Maybe you got the same problem

Sounds like either the top mounts is fooked, or your shock is.

Should be good shocks and topmounts on the rear Mike. If they we're shot, I'd expect to hear banging as opposed to creaking. I know that the droplinks weren't looking the newest, so that's my guess old chap....

Thanks for the replys guys.
Neil, would have took you up on that offer but i'm working today. Had the car up in the air yesterday and it looks like its the rear beam bushes

. You could see the beam move back and forth on the bushes when rocking the car. Some white grease was applied and there was no more sound.
