Hey people, just need to know if a 325i switchable auto box (getrag zf) would fit my 1989 318i auto, cheers, Ad :)

my understanding is there is only three boxes for the E30. all made by ZF
1 3HP 22 - old three speed box
2. 4HP22 - the four speed non switchable box
3. 4HP 22 EH - the four speed switchable box which uses electrically operated soleniods and valves to switch cogs rather than the conventional fluid pressure.

thus i would say if you had the switchable box originally then any switchable box will replace it.

I dont have a switchable box, does that mean its hassle fitting one as the box im looking at is a 325i switchable, its just a cheap box has come about and rather than fully overhaul mine i could just swap it over! :)

M40 and M20,(read 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder)engines sit at a different angle. This certainly affects the manual 'boxes, but I have no idea if it affects the slushboxes!

i may be wrong about this but from all the info i got there is a few things you need to check out first do the bolts from the box align with the engine the box being a eh type i dont hold much hope even if it did you then have to refit all the electrics over plus i think there is some connections to the ecu also that need to be done i was thinking about this my self once but in the end rebuild of box and a new better diff was a better idea
