how do these work ? seat frames

found these seat frame things for e30's and e36's but for the life of me i cant figure out how they work 
, are they suited for side mount or base mount seats ? do they fit side to side in the car or front to back ? im thinking maybe these fit do the floor (well i know the fit to the floor) then you fit side mounts to them then fit your seat, i dunno they confuse me lol :wack::D
