E30 Zone

i want to remove one of the high beam lights to make an air intake and was wondering if it was possible to rewire the highbeam into the main beam light (and obviously still have both functioning), if it is possible i also have halo's so does this make it anymore difficult ???

So the main beam stays on while you switch to high beam? to keep a light on both sides as the high beam on one side will be removed?
If so, they already do

Or do you mean to fit a combined high/low beam light unit to replace the original?

yes that is what i mean, so that the main and high beam are both in the one unit.

Removing one headlamp will make your car illegal for use on the road. All lights, except rear fog and reversing lights have to be symmetrical.

not in the UK the E30 never had a sealed beam unit with hi and low beam in the same light

well i could always do the same on the other side then, that would solve that problem.

US had the twin filament sealed beam units where all four lights switched to highbeam, thus fitting these as the outer two only would solve your problem.

these lights were on my first sport and were made by General Electric, however the diameter is different from european lights and thus you will need a US front grill. the light uintis themselves are available easily here and the US and are a standard size (early Jap cars used them too)

for wiring you need to do the reverse of this thread,

or even better log on and offer a yank to swap your Euro smileys for their sealed beam system (and the grills too!)..but for what it is worth they are ribbish, worse then the early E30 lights

If you go to the Engine swaps section and have a rummage through Appletree's thread he has removed both inner lights and fitted some aftermarket H4 units.

I presume that these can be arranged to dip correctly to suit UK use?
In the same way that 'standard fit' can be adjusted to dip either way?
