E30 Zone

Can anyone recommend this kit?

Im looking to change the timing belt on my e30 1992 320 cabby. Ive never done one before so im just hoping it all goes smoothly. Any hints or tips that anyone could provide would be handy!

Ive seen the 'how to' guide on angelfire i think it is? That looks comprehensive and ive got a Hayness book.

I would highly recommend the kit shown, Contitech and tensioners are excellent. No problems there i use them all the time.
Follow the Haynes manual and you should be ok. It will be a good idea to change your water pump while you have everything stripped down.
Also if the water hoses are looking tired replace them and your alternator and water pump drive belts.
Oil can leak from the front camshaft oil seal, these are easy to do at timing belt change time, it is an oil seal and o' ring about £8.00.
Follow your manual and turn the engine clockwise with a 20mm socket on the crankshaft bolt until you line up the timing marks on the camshaft and crankshaft.
Top dead centre TDC on the crankshaft is the small line between the O/T on the pulley edge.
The camshaft has a line on the edge of the pulley which must align with the Mark on the cylinderhead.

if you have some way of undoing the big bolt holding the crank pulley on? its f/t +1/2 a turn. not so easy with a 3/8th socket set and no way of holding the crank still, bar taking the sump off a wedging it with a block of wood.....

Thanks for the advice, ive ordered the part, and im going to attempt the timing belt over the next three days. I thought id give myself plenty of time!
