Electrical gremlins?

On the way to work my rev counter died taking the mpg-meter with it. Tacho reads zero, econometer reads 50+mpg. On the way home they both sprang back to life, are there any known "issues" that are likely to be causing this?

Plus,

My temp gauge seems to move in steps of a few mm on the gauge rather than smoothly up or down. Is this normal and if not what is the likely cause?

Thanks in advance, my old-car-itis is driving me mental at the moment, lol.

Sounds like a problem with that specific module, it might be worth taking the instrument binacle out and checking the connections and also the brass earthing nuts.

I have this problem occasionally, and I tracked it to a loose connection in the C101 plug mounted on the bulkhead.

Other rev/mpg problems are attributed to the SI board batteries inside the cluster, and should also show up as problems with the service indicator lights.
