How hard is it to install an alarm to my touring?... and is it worth it?.. i dont wanna be having loads of problems with it after installation...

depends on what kind of alarm your fitting basic not hard but stuff like auto closure auto lock etc is a real pain either way lots of panels to remove wires to check but basic one when done right should not take you more than a day key word take your time

yeh only interested in a simple one... just so no one nicks my pride and joy... i think total enclosure is for showoffs lol... cheers for the help ;)

well in that case any alarm from a decent company should do install will be easy connections needed will be live,earth,2 wires to flash lights,2 to the central locking thats it unless it comes with other features having one is better than not having one at all may even help with insurance good luck

If your aim is to stop the theft of your car, forget all the whistles and bells commercial alarms (which offer close to zero protection against all but the most stupid of potential car thieves), and fit a hidden, or blatantly obvious switch to SHORT CIRCUIT the purple/green wire that feeds the fuel pump.

When I took my old 318is down to London to visit my sister I was paranoid someone would steal it so whenever I had to leave it somewhere for any length of time I'd take the fuel pump fuse with me and keep it in my wallet.
Much cheaper than fitting an alarm!

Effective, but I can't see the point of taking it with you - there are 30 other replacements in the fusebox.

hi where would you find this wire and would you just cut it and connect to a simple switch

Wire is green/purple, and comes down the tube from the fusebox, at the back of the glovebox, and then goes across to the corner, down behind the front of the speaker cover, and back along the LH sill.
No, YOU DO NOT CUT IT; you tee into it. That's the whole point - if the ignition is turned on (or hot wired) before the switch is turned off, fuse 11 blows, adding another problem for the potential thief to overcome, even if he then discovers the switch.
Switch connects between the green/purple wire and earth.

excellent.. ill think this over as it seems easier than fitting an alarm that i dont even really want... cheers brian
