E30 Zone

Ive been spending most of my easter break of uni trying to get my old girl up to tip top shape for the summer. The utter cowboy who I foolishly bought it off hadn't looked after the car what so ever! So I Managed to get the old fuel tank out which was rusted to fook and sourced a new one painted it all up and fitted it back in. Then thought while the car was in the air I would tackle the issue with the o/s handbrake not working. Took apart the caliper and removed the disk thinking the shoes are probably just very worn, and to my HORROR there was nothing! no adjusters, no springs, no shoes nothing just the handbrake cable and a very rusty dust cover!






My question is how easy would it be to fit the handbrake assembly and what do I need for it? will the hub need removing? Any help appreciated

I checked the other side and the works and looks fine with what appears to be new adjusters. Im just stumped how it could just simply dissapear!

Two ways to replace the dust cover.
Proper way involves removing the hub....if the bearing is rough now is the time to sort it.
Bodge way is to cut the new dust cover,bend it so it slides over the hub and weld up the cut.
From the complete handbrake side you will see all the bits you need to find/buy to assemble the handbrake correctly,a 'wanted' add in the correct part of the forum may bring up the bits or you can order from your local stealer,most E30 specific bits are available within two days.
Easiest fix was suggested by Will....assuming you can get the trailing arm bolts out....

Hmm I dont wanna bodge it, thats what the last owner did and has taken its toll how hard is it gonna be to remove and install the new hub? providing a source the parts needed

You didn't mention the dog treats in the air box...

I'd source a rear arm for that side and replace the lot. Much quicker tha farting about with the hub assembly. Theres enough 325's being broken at the moment.

I'd agree with this, and rebush the trailing arm joints while you're at it

If i were you i'd be very worried about the fact that it passed it's last MOT like this...which shouldn't be possible!

For your own safety, you should consider getting another MOT test done ASAP. The last one must've been bent, so who knows what else they didn't bother checking.

So are the rear arms interchangable then from 325s to iS's I take it? Anyone got a complete assembly for the n/s rear they wanna flog?

I know it worried me thinking that about the MOT, but while I was under the car removing the tank, I gave it a good look over and got a second opinion and seemed ok. And besides I drove from swansea to west sussex when picking the car up with not much trouble hoping its the just handbrake. Ive had enough of suprises!

Rear arms are interchangeable between any disc braked E30, although tourings apparently have slightly different sized pistons in the brake callipers.
