Hi all I need some help with this ecu I believe Ive kind of fixed it however here is a pic so you know what im referring too.

Image

Now since i have taken this pic I have cleaned all the contacts and seems like new again.

However when i press the button on the dash nothing happens!

However on the ecu when I tap the gold coil thing and make the contacts touch the motor moves theres 4 coils 2 are for one motor to bring forward and back and the other 2 are for the other motor to do the same thing! However my button dont work on the dash?

Are these contacts supposed to be touching all the time? like a relay? or not? If not what do you think why button dont work at the front??

I appreciate your help there must be someone who can point me in the right direction?

I lived in wolverhampton for 20 years and dont remember this place, have you got an address for the E30 centre?
Might be worth me dropping in some time to get my roof looked at.

Now the thing is when I press the side of the relay on the ecu the motor moves as i said before so i think this is fine now the roof didnt work before but it is electric

I know im missing a few bits but i want to get it all working again

I dont know where these micro switches are I know there is one on the left handside under the bit where the roof is kept but i believe the manual roofs also have them so maybe im looking at the wrong things if you dont know what im referring to let me know and i will take a pic for you

Now the thing is i know am missing some bits i need the other rod to move the roof so if someone has a spare one please pm me

Image

and lastly can someone tell me where this cable goes I have had a look on realoem and cannot find this cable or where it goes underneath in the bot?

See my pics in

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... highlight=

for pictures of the bits you are missing, seems to be the oval shaped lever and the thick roof rod this attaches to. The wire you picture needs to stay pretty much where it is, there is a plastic clip to hold it in place, see part 8 in

Thanks for that infomation ben however the cable in the final pick goes in to the boot and its snapped i want to know where it goes? as it needs replacing? Where is part 13 the micro switch as maybe thats why my electrics are not working

The wire sounds like its the one that means the boot and horseshoe cant be opened at the same time, if the boot is open and you open the horseshoe the boot closes, it was snapped on mine when I bought it originally, i replaced it with a new wire which fits into a gold coloured part bolted to the underneath of the horseshoe compartment on the passenger side. You can see the bolts (3 I think) in the horseshoe compartment and the mechanism is in the boot. It was a pain in the arse to put new wires in the mechanism as it is spring loaded and hard to get into but managed in the end. It would be easier to get a new mechanism from a breaker if you can, I believe all E30 cabs have them not just electric roof ones.

Picture of mechanism is

See the part top right, new wires are nos 19 and 20

I think, but am not 100%, that there are some sort of sensors on part 22 in the following diagram on the electric roofs.

http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E30/C ... tment_lid/

There is also a microswitch on the drivers side of the hood, near to where it bolts on in the hood compartment, you should be able to see the wire and connector and the switch that gets pushed when the roof goes down fully.
