Don't think it's a straight swap. Running gear includes front legs, steering rack, oil sump, as well as the usual gearbox/diff/prop/driveshaft issues. There MIGHT also be some actual body differences, but I can't remember.

I looked into all this a year back, as my car has the paperwork of a 325iX despite being a 320i mechanically. Good old dodgy imports ;)

Happy days :D Might just look for a tatty ix to do up, probably cheaper too... I know u need a short engine if its to be attempted, and legs with shafts etc, 2 props i think

Yeah, did a search for my old thread. Chassis is different, especially front turrets. Plus, the 4x4 running gear has fragilities - the yanks do all sorts of mods to the drive shafts to make them penetrate the hubs deeper.

Quattro ist fur sissies, anyway

As said the front turrets are slightly differant and the transmission tunnel is wider on an iX. I have all the running gear spare if you fancy a project winkeye

The front driveshafts fully pass through the hubs with a large nut on the front just like rear E30 shafts do so I dont know how they modify them :?

Theoretically then :D what would need to be done to a standard 2 door e30 in terms of squeezing all the extras in? Lump hammer to the tranny tunnel Im guessing? And locate a short engine. And I doubt it would work with my m52 :(. German eBay me thinks

The transmission tunnel would need more than a beating I fear !

You would need a sump and oil pick up from an E34 525iX to use the M52 donk winkeye

As dips says the M20 block is different underneath for the oil pick up & pump to a normal M20 block, I also have one of these here winkeye

I've got an iX that is in the process of being rebuilt. It's had a full respray, I'm just getting last few bits of trim.

The weak point as I recall is the driveshaft where it enters the front diff. Tends to strip its splines.

Moonlite motorwerks do a spacer for the front prop shaft http://www.moonlitemotorwerks.com/driveshaft
