i have just changed my diff and put new wheels on my touring,

since then i have noticed a horrendus noise after a minute of driving.

starts making a metal on metal noise like something is catching.

it goes away on acceleration but on throttle off and braking its there.

it sounds like a lathe, as it its not always catching but i cant find marks on wheels or see any truth marks anywhere

its also weird how it takes a time to start.

im confused

please help

Is there oil in the new diff? You wouldn't be the first!

could be the handbrake shoes. the backplates can corrode which in turn lets the retaining clip for the shoe drop out and it then swings over rubbing on the inside of the drum.

as it's a replacement diff, maybe one of the seal cover plates has got bent and is now rubbing the casing.

i thought the handbrake but i tried driving about with it on a bit etc and it doesnt affect it. also it takes a bit for it to start. i shall investigate tomorrow

ill check the diff casing wise, and the oil (i thought it would wine if it was oil less)
