HIDs not switching off

I fitted a set of HIDs at the weekend, drove to work and back Monday with no problem - dark on way home. Got home this evening, switched lights and engine off, but the headlights stayed on.

Luckily I keep a Haynes book in the car so I looked up the fuse numbers and pulled the first one out. One of the lights went out, then I heard a click and the other went out.

I assume the click was the relay.

Are the HIDs the cause of this, or is it just coincidence? If it happens again, is there another relay that I can swap with it to test?

but what is strange is that both lights stayed on as they are essentially two completely seperate systems, it could be that the HIDS are pulling too much current through the relays and they cannot switch off, what is the power consumption of the HID kit?

HIDs take less power than the standard bulbs, and the cold inrush current can't be greater that that of a cold halogen lamp. All well within the ratings of the 30A relay.
The click you heard would be the relay (K4), which is probably the problem.

The HIDs are 35w, which is fairly standard.

Is there another relay I can temporarily swap with K4 until I can get a replacement (if the problem reoccurs)?

There is, if you have front fog lights. K8 is the same as K4.

I certainly have. I'll try that if I need to.
Thanks Brian.
