I have just bought my second 325i Sport after a break of around 7-8 years an as I remember it, the low fuel warning light should illuminate when the needle gets to the red, is that correct?
I was recently driving with low fuel and the needle was almost to the last white line and the warning light had not come on, what could be the problem? Should I get a new sender unit or are there any easy checks that can determine where the fault lies?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Steve.

More E30 paranoia! The orange light shouldn't come on until the needle has dropped all the way past the red painted bit, and is over the part that actually lights up!
There have been countless threads on here in the same vein as yours, and in only a very, very few cases, if any at all, has the light or its sensor been found to be faulty.

P.S: No responsibility accepted if you have to be towed off a motorway, having run out of fuel!
