Allegedly it does, but UK cars don't have the fault light fitted.
If you want to try it, look for a plain grey wire in the engine side of the C101 engine loom plug and socket, and connect a 1.2W 12 volt bulb between it and ignition switched 12 volts +.

I've just tried this while tinkering outside this evening and it doesnt seem to work. My car is a 325i with a -164 ECU. I'll try it again with a 173 ECU later in the week and report back.

From experience the stomp test works on the 17x and 38x ecu's (I find it easier to operate the throttle linkage under the bonnet as you have to open & shut it really quickly, 5 times within approx 2 seconds).
I'm surprised it doesn't work on a 16x ecu as I've looked it up and they are Motronic 1.3, same as 17x & 38x ecu's, but were fitted from around 87-88, the other ecu's were later.

Forgot to mention: Fret not if Motronic gives a 1211 code (as long as yours is an ECE/cat ready vehicle without a cat & o2 sensor), this is perfectly normal and just means Motronic isn't receiving an o2 sensor signal. It will therefore be running using the open loop fuelling map and obviously not in closed loop adaptive.
