Electric hood motor gone!

Hello guys,
can anyone help me? my electric hood motor has gone on my convertable. (it has done the usual thing of shearing the casing) I have looked back on the zone, and spoken to nick thompson in sheffield, who was very helpful, but I need to get a new part.

he reckoned one of the guys had found a company in germany who do a repair kit for the case??? otherwise it is going to be a large bill at the stealers for a new motor, 8O then another Ԛ£100 or so to get the roof reset....

Any help, advice, or contacts for a new/different motor etc would be appreciated. I tried jason in wednesbury, but his number doesn't appear to work, so now stumped!

cheers in advance for any help

martin

This seems to be common on the electric hoods  Sorry to say I can't help mate, and I hear it is a life changing bill from the stealers for another one. If the Jerries can fix it, why can't we? If you post some pics mate I'm sure we can come up with some way of fixing it - if it is possible, and if the germans do a fix kit it must be. Anyway nothing ventured nothing gained.
Good luck mate :D

thanks for that! I just heard from euro car parts that you got the last one, hence the cheap price..... it is now Ԛ£399.

I will ring the guys in germany, and see about the repair kit. Did you use nick thompson in sheffield to get your hood reset by any chance? if so what did you think, and how much did you need to pay?

loads of people have used the repair kit with excellent results. There are 2 types, the easiest to fit uses the existing motor screw fixings and is apparantly a piece of.... to fit. You can find them both on ebay.

martin,

i got the kit where you just bolt a plate over the top. but i had other cracks on my hood motor casing so i never used it. it cost about 98 euros...if you want it you can have it for Ԛ£50. i'll try and find the link to the website so you can see the pics.

a bit of advice....don't unbolt the motor if you can help it....the more you remove of the levers/rods etc the more difficult it is to get it it all back in sync!...very few garages can do it properly for you if you can't do it.

i have conervted mine to a manual hood so will probably sell all the elec parts (hood flap motor/linkages/rods etc) on ebay when i get round to it.

I would be interested in a couple of the rods and the repair kit if that's ok.

I have attached a link to http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?m ... g=54&fg=10 which has diagrams of the hood mechanisms/rods....let me know which ones you want/are interested in and i'll see if i have them

Sorry guys, a bit erratic with when I can check the zone! have got the repair kit on order from germany, and found a guy called nick thompson in sheffield who can set it up for me when I have fitted the new housing part. he has also shown me how to lock the cover down in the mean time, so I don't miss out on the nice weather :D

I will try to post when I have got it fixed to let you know how it all went.

cheers

hi motorsport

could you let me know by monday night (29th) if you still want the repair plate. i have a few other people interested but you currently you are the first person to whom it is offered. if i don't hear from you by then i will probably have to offer it to someone else as i will presume that you don't want it....hope that is ok?

gazza....i replied to your e-mail on wednesday...did you get it?....if no reply from motorsport i'll be in touch
