Im trying to remove the two half shafts off my LSD. The problem is two of the Torx bolts (one each side) are badly rusted and after trying all types of sockets including the irwin bolt grip set they will not budge and now I cant get anything to bite on the bolts at all. Anybody got any ideas for a diy mechanic as im pretty stuck...

Use an angle grinder to grind the heads of the bolts. Once the shafts are off the remainder of the bolts should come out easily with a pair of mole grips.

Had this problem on Monday! Angle grinder dealt with the bolt head (there's a crescent shaped double ended washer that stops you grinding into the flange), but I still couldn't shift the bolt remains with any kind of grips.
Flipped the whole drive flange out of the side of the diff with a tyre lever, held the bolt in a vice, and tapped the flange around it with a hammer.

I see well il have to try and get my hands on a grinder and see if that works for me... A case of bang it off after the heads are cut off.
Cheers for the help

Sabre saw has never set fire to my overalls.....

it is fun trying to extinguish a smoldering leg on an overall

That'll be where Freddie the fire extinguisher comes in to the game

Got the shafts off with 2 minutes grinding but the bolts are still solid and wont budge with the vice grips.
Thought of drilling them out but dont want to damage the threads on the flange...
