Standalone Engine Management Advice Needed

Hi, this has probably been discussed several times but any advice and where to purchase from would be great.

I am currently running a standard 2.5 M20 engine with big bore throttle body, larger airflow meter, larger injectors, chipped ecu and a six branch manifold.

Over the winter i am hoping to build a 2.7 with an uprated camshaft, lightened flywheel and a standalone engine management system, the car is a road going track day car so will probably be setup more for the track and less for the road.

What are my options for a standalone system and what sort of power increase (if any?) can i expect.

I have had a look around on the internet but am struggling to find much out.

Thanks in advance.

John

Standalone engine management options are varied tbh.

It'll all depend on your budget and what additional features you're looking for.
Also consider ecu options which may be required for future upgrades.

I.E
Sequential injection instead of batch fired.
Multi injectors per cylinder
Boost control
Launch control
Traction control
Leccy Fan control
Coil on plug or wasted spark etc.etc etc

Once you've sorted out what is required for your intended application,THEN you can look at what's available.

Standalone's to not add power they just optimise the parts you have, something untill recently was hard to do with stock management.

Do the benefits of a standalone system out way the problems of installing it and fine tuning it or do i get the standard ecu remapped to suit the engine and upgrades. Jason you mentioned it was until recently hard to do with stock management, does this mean that there have been advances in the programming of the standard system.

Have you considered the Miller WAR chip? It would cover what you need and they have some good maps for strokers/modded engines already on their site ready for download. They would be a good base and all you would need is a couple of hours on the dyno to tweak. It also has the advantage of being very cheap when compared to decent standalone setups.

Hi

with stock there are 3 options
1 the miller war chip which swaps the afm for a maf
2 live remap of the stock ecu
3 unichip conversion.

and when evolve done some back to back testing the afm is about a 4bhp restirction

I am running a HC M20B28 with 274 cam, BBTB, 6 branch and MS, getting 209bhp and 215 ft/l torque, i can also quicky switch to Motronic using an Ant chip, the difference is around 4/5 bhp as mentioned but i like the MS cos of the diagnostic capability.

Was a good day on dyno to set up and not perfect on the road but more than good enough for track
