E30 Zone

Hi

i need to replace the 2 rear beam bush's on my 318is, think i've seen a write up before on how to do it, but can't find it. any help would be welcome, also can you do it with the beam/axle on the car??

yes mate it can be done with the beam on but its a proper pain in the arse to do it tho.
even trying to take the frame off is just as bad cuz most times the bushes are proper stuck to the housing.it took mine to a garage to have it done (and that took them nearly a week to do it!)cuz doing it myself last time was a stressful two days by burning the rubber out with a blow torch but taking car not to set fire to the fuel tankand then cut and chissel away at the steel coller till it comes out.
Its got to be one of the worst jobs to have to do on an E30

i got mine done last yr cost me 150 quid but need to do them again as he put them in upside down

or drive to my house in brighton and ill do em free! lol

i got the tool that pulls them out !

This is not a job I would do myself on a daily driver,even starting on a Saturday morning I would be unlikely to be able to use the car for work on Monday morning!
I have paid an indipendent BMW specialist £115 per car to change rear bushes and it is worth every penny!
However,on two project cars now I have done the job myself;

You do not need the petrol tank out,that's a seperate issue!
That is the easy way for DiY,basicaly that lot is held by three bolts,after the exhaust,heatshields and prop are dis-connected or removed.

My prefered method of extracting rubber bushes,trailing arm shown here but axle carrier is the same principle.
You will need access to a press to fit new axle carrier bushes,on the car shown here I took the stripped and painted rear beam to my local garage and they took a tenner off me for doing the job!
As you can see,the rear beam is as yet untouched,but now looks completely different when cleaned and painted.
When re-assembling,I found it easier this time to fit the bare axle carrier to the car,then the trailing arms,then the diff.

Any chance of a quote please mister? I'd want Powerflex ones in when the old ones were out. Does this make a difference to you?
