Evening all.Has anyone had any torque coverter problems on their auto box, what were you symptoms? i have had 3 non zoners say my symptoms are the tc, but i have also had much appreciated advice on the zone saying different.(see my 'bloody idle and icv problems' thread for my symptoms) I just wanna make sure it is the tc before i spend a wedge getting it done! I have been told it is an expensive gearbox out job,can anyone help with a good recommended mechanic near oxfordshire and has anyone got a tc for sale for a '89' 318i,i wil put posts on the wanted and look in the for sale section in a mo.

Hi mate, my gearbox was leaking oil from the torque converter end, so i managed to get hold of a second hand box with torque converter, had it put in for £200 and car is great again. Symtons where that the car would rev and not go anywhere fast, like a manual does when the clutch is on the way out! I would get a box of a trusted zoner buddy!

Mine runs perfect and i've no oil leeks, tickovers a bit rough but it stays afloat at about 550rpm,the only problem is when i stop in traffic or at lights and leave it in drive,it just keeps pushing, nearly stalls and the mpg needle is having a fit!! i have to put it in (n) when approaching stopping,it's a pain in the arse.I'll have to do some more investigating, just don't wanna end up buying things that don't fix it.

Hm think you have another problem, TC problem is mostly if the auto feels lazy, in revers and forward, i don't know of anything else to look for there.

Cheers,it's not lazy at all, goes purfect and pulls up through evrey gear. And nothing wrong with reverse. i,ve cleaned the icv, checked all the hoses and replaced the throtttle inlet rubber cos that had a split in.Look elswhere you think?

Im not shure here, maybe your computer is acting up? An auto is always pushing, not much at idle tho.

Chatted to another machanic today who said it is not the tc because when i dissconnect the icv everything is fine , although the revs do pick up but put it in drive and it just sits there ready to go with not pushing or stalling.I'm gonna get another icv and take it from there.

Many people will blame the TC right away when there is a problem with the auto. If it aint lazy or not leaking oil the TC should be fine ;)
