hello,

I installed the weber on my 316 , it runs good again now , still when i start the car in the morning it wont start without pushing the gas pedal , is this normal ??

Has it got an auto or manual choke ?

indeed DHFis , its a manual choke, the original pierburg carb had automatic choke , i tried it with choke completly on , half on , and no choke --> all 3 had same problem. Once the engine starts and i put it off immidiatly , and than try again ,it will start directly. Once it turns , engine turns really fine...

God its a long time since i have worked on a weber....!!!!

Dose the choke butterfly close completely when you pull the knob ?

Years ago we always started with webers by one push on the throttle to squirt in some petrol.[everyone did it didn't they]?

Yep, exactly the same on one of my nova's. Flip the fuel pump on, let the needle on the gauge spin round, 2 dabs of throttle and she roared into life. Was twin 40's

I used to do this on my 316,pull out choke a little,push the throttle pedal to squirt some fuel in and away you go.

I had a 316 with a Weber I dont remember any pedal pumping to get it going. Pull the choke button out, depending on how cold it was, then as the engine heats up push the button back in.

sounds like fuel starvation! i used to over come this by blipping the throttle just before turning off the ignition ! this should prime the carb / carbs for the next time its started!!

I had a Toyota 2TG with twin solex carbs years ago and always had to give the throttle a good blip before a cold start. I think it might be normal but it is so long since I have had a carb car

My Fiat twin cam engined Minor has a twin-choke Weber, and despite having an automatic choke, it occasionally needs a pump of throttle to start it from cold.

I adjusted my mixture screw with a air/fuel meter to a co% of 0,5% . It was at 5% , mixture was too rich... Now it starts perfectly and without pushing gas pedal. It also consumes less fuel now , yesterday i drove 210km with 15 litres of fuel (80% of freeway at 120km/h , 20 % smaller roads at 70 - 90 km/h)

Where is the air/fuel screw? I can only seem to see the idle screw!

Similar issue, and my sparkies are completely black! So defo running rich.

I have run Webers on MGs for many years, even in the coldest weather no choke is required, two dabs on the throttle, hold the throttle part open and they start with no problem.

I had a ‘73 2002 with a Weber carb. I was taught to pump the throttle pedal twice, then start. No choke needed (but I live in a warm climate).
